UTICA, N.Y. - The St. Elizabeth College of Nursing (SECON) presented the following awards to the top students of the 2018 graduating class at SECON on May 12, 2018.
The St. Elizabeth Medical Staff Award was presented to Valedictorian, Megan Mahady of Utica, New York. The Mildred Balutis Memorial Award was presented to Valedictorian, Marianna Notaro of Clinton, New York. The Guild of St. Elizabeth Medical Center Award was presented to Salutatorian, Sabrina Verdgeline of Rome, New York.
The Alumni Association of the St. Elizabeth College of Nursing Clinical Award was presented to weekday graduate, Kevin Koscinski of Utica, and weekend graduate, Mandy Crim of Little Falls, New York.
An Award in Memory of Jaden Zechariah Goico, given to a graduate who demonstrated clinical excellence in the area of Obstetrics/Gynecology or Pediatrics, was awarded to Charity Leslie of Oriskany Falls, New York.
The Rose Shaffer Kolmer Memorial Award, presented to a graduate who persevered in the goal of becoming a St. Elizabeth graduate, was awarded to Nicole Chrystie of Utica and Laura Walker of Ilion, New York.
An Award in Memory of Charles Weiss, a graduate of St. Elizabeth College of Nursing, and a registered nurse employed at Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS), was given by his friends and co-workers from St. Elizabeth Medical Center Emergency Room to a graduate that showed exemplary teamwork, brings humor into patient care and is an independent thinker. This award was presented to Andrea Capron of Boonville, New York.
A 1999 graduate of the College has established a yearly scholarship to be awarded to a SECON alumnus with a 3.0 GPA or higher and is continuing his or her education for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Utica or surrounding areas. This award was presented to Jordan Sahl of Whitesboro, New York; Abigail Narkiewicz of Granville, New York; and McKenna Hungerford of Morris, New York.
